Unions oppose divestment
Call to allot steel mines to Vizag Steel Plant
Visakhapatnam: Participants in a round-table meeting held here on Sunday opposed the initiatives of the NDA government to disinvest from public sector units in the country on Sunday. They alleged that both the UPA and the NDA governments are working for the welfare of corporate companies.Governments are allotting the lands to those companies which is harmful to the society. They alleged that the government is planning to close the PSUs which are playing a key role in the development of the country.
They demanded to allot iron mines to Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and not to sell the shares of the company. The government has sold the profitable Hindustan Zinc company to a private organisation but the private management could not run it successfully and closed the company. As a result, workers became jobless. They alleged that the government’s motto is to privatise the companies and give benefits to the corporate companies. They demanded to give priority to save public sector and save the society.
Vice-president of Citu state wing Ch. Narasinga Rao, coordinator of public sector employees unions N. Jyoteswara Rao and general secretary of Steel Plant Employees Union V.S. Padmanabha Raju have participated the meeting.
