University of Hyderabad protests Osmania University hostel fire incident
Hyderabad: Protests erupted at the University of Hyderabad with over a 100 students burning the effigies of BJP leader Kishan Reddy, and the ABVP in front of the main gate while shouting slogans.
The University of Hyderabad students were protesting the recent incident at the Osmania University, where the hostel room of Sarath Nalliganti, a Dalit student, was burnt by the ABVP activists.
They condemned the act and said that it was instigated by vested interests, who have created a divide between the students of different unions on the university campus.
“The torching of his room destroyed Sarath’s certificates, monetary savings, academic documents and other vital possessions. We condemn ABVP’s act. This planned attack is an attempt to suppress the socio-cultural revolution that is altering the Right-wing agenda. This attack on Sarath coincides with a mobilisation of contract workers across Telangana. The ABVP is sparking chaos among the students with regard to the issue of regularisation of contract workers and availability of jobs for fresh graduates. The purpose of this manipulation is to create a divide between the students and workers,” said Dontha Prashant, a student.
Another student said, “This is about the convergence of Dalit and Muslim politics in India. Sarath had joined the MIM and had stood against the BJP candidate. The plan to attack him had been brewing for long.”
“This ire against regularisation of workers in Telangana is in sync with using communal and casteist propaganda to distract from the NDA’s overhaul of laws regarding labour, environment and displacement,” he added.
