Accused Pathabathula Balchandra was arrested for sexually assulting Anganwadi worker

Vijayawada: Kothapeta police on Sunday booked one Pathabathula Balachandra for rape of an Anganwadi worker at the Anganwadi centre in New Rajarajeswaripeta. The 30-year-old victim, a helper in the Anganwadi centre, was carrying out her duties on Saturday when she was allegedly sexually assaulted by Balachandra. Sources said that Balachandra is a painter who lives in the same area. It is believed that he is known to the victim.
According to the complaint filed by the victim, Balachandra found her alone and forced her into a room at Anganwadi centre and sexually assaulted her. According to sources, the incident took place on Saturday but came to light only on Sunday. The victim approached the Kothapeta police late in the night and lodged a complaint. Police registered a case and is investigating. The accused is absconding and a manhunt has been launched to nab him.
