Ousted Karti will take legal route

All India Tennis Association removed Karti citing conflict of interest
Bengaluru: Karti Chidambaram is a man of many words and interests and tennis, he says, is a passion. On Saturday, Karti, however, was in for a huge shock as the All India Tennis Association removed him from the post of vice president citing conflict of interest.“In a wholly unconstitutional, illegal and arbitrary move, The AITA under Anil Khanna in its annual general meeting on Saturday, removed me as vice-president of the body,” thundered Karti here on the day.
Explaining his stand, he said, “This is an issue that was flagged to me a year ago when AITA suggested that I was an office-bearer in two sporting federations AITA and the Tenpin Bowling Federation (India) and that as per the AITA constitution, I could hold a post in only one. “There are enough clauses in the constitution which made a distinction between office-bearers and vice-presidents,” he said.
Karti said, he would take the legal to sort the matter, “All of a sudden, this matter was agitated in the AGM today even before the listed agenda. A resolution was moved to remove me. I will be going to court immediately and I am very confident I will get a stay and be reinstated,” he said.
AITA president, Anil Khanna on his part said, “AITA clause 27B(e) which states disabilities of office-bearers says that an AITA office-bearer shall not be an office-bearer of any other National Sports Federation except the Indian Olympic Association.”
“Chidambaram was given an opportunity to explain in writing whether he would like to leave AITA or TBF (I). He has been non-committal and the council was unanimous in its decision. The constitution must be respected right or wrong till it is amended,” he concluded.
