Nepotism irks Belgaum Congress leaders
Belgaum: At a time when legislators and senior leaders are lobbying for berths in the cabinet or posts of chairpersons of state-owned boards and corporations, some leaders of the local unit of Congress accused legislator local Feroz Sait and district unit president Laxmi Hebbalkar of trying to promote their supporters for key posts in the government.
Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, several leaders including C K S Nazir, Vijay Shetty, Sunil Hanmannavar and Hashim Bhavikatti alleged that Mr. Sait, a local MLA, was pressurising party leaders to appoint his brother Raju Sait as chairman of Belgaum Urban Development Authority though he was already heading Belgaum City Congress Cell.
Mr. Faizan Sait, son of Feroz Sait, was president of Belgaum City Congress Youth Cell.
Thus, members of this family were already occupying important posts but the legislator was keen to land a plum post for his sibling.
The leaders charged that Mr. Sait and Mrs. Hebbalkar were calling the shots despite setback in elections to Lok Sabha and the Legislative Assembly.
The party had ignored leaders like Anjali Nimbalkar, Amarsing Patil, Shivangouda Patil and several others.
Both Mr. Sait and Mrs. Hebbalkar were unwilling to give letters of recommendation to such leaders and help secure posts.
In case they continue to neglect these leaders, they would petition senior leaders of the party in Bengaluru and New Delhi.
