Six-storey building sealed by Chennai corporation

The builder had flouted norms by building additional floors exceeding the permitted height.

Chennai: Chennai corporation on Saturday sealed a six-storey building at Parry’s Corner for violating building guidelines.

The builder had flouted norms by building additional floors exceeding the permitted height.

Upon detection, the building located in Thatha Muthaiappan Street was sealed by corporation staff on Saturday morning and all construction activities in the building were stopped.

“The building was constructed to a level of six floors without obtaining the necessary permission,” said a corporation official.

“The corporation has authority to approve buildings with two floors above which permission from the CMDA (Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority) must be sought. But the builder has violated the norm by just obtaining the permission from the corporation and built a six-storeyed building,” he added.

The building was a residential complex but is yet to be occupied.
