Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam mutt offers Rs 1 lakh to Jammu & Kashmir
80th birthday celebration in the city on Saturday, Kanchi Acharya Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamy
Chennai: The Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam has announced an initial sum of Rs 1 lakh as relief towards the Prime Minister’s disaster relief fund to help Jammu and Kashmir flood victims.
Distributing excellence awards and welfare aid marking his 80th birthday celebration in the city on Saturday, Kanchi Acharya Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamy appealed to the people to contribute their mite for the relief fund and help the government to rehabilitate the victims besides take up restoration work on a war-footing.
The peetadhipathi quoting a popular dictum Dharmo rakshati rakshitaha (Dharma will protect those who protect it), called upon people to uphold righteousness in the society.
Junior pontiff Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamy said as a spiritual leader Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamy had travelled intensively propagating the teachings of Adi Shankaracharya in addition to fostering education, ensuring social welfare schemes and he served as a guiding force.
About 180 service organisations honoured the Kanchi Acharya at the function held under the auspices of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Chennapuri Baktha Jana Samajam, Jan Kalyan and Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Baktha Peravai at Krishna Gana Sabha.
Excellence awards like Bhagawat Seva Mani, Guru Seva Mani, Jana Seva Mani, Vidhya Dhana Rathna, Deiva Tamil Chakravarthy, honesty in poverty and Veda Samrakshna, were given away to 46 personalities on the occasion.
