DMK movement can’t be defeated, says party president Karunanidhi

Karunanidhi’s strong remarks come in the wake of internal bickering in its ranks

Chennai: Apparently trying to offset criticism about unending internal wrangles and successive electoral drubbings that his party was suffering from, DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Friday said the DMK was not merely a party, but a movement that would not be defeated by anyone.

Asserting that, “none is born to defeat it”, Karunanidhi, addressing the cadres at a marriage function in the family of party senior and Chennai district secretary J. Anbazhagan, said the DMK was being run like a family and not as a mere political party or a social movement.

It was a movement that strives for bringing social revolution, he added. Recalling the contributions of Anbazhgan and many others like him for the growth of DMK, the nonagenarian said, “I strongly believe that despite mischief by many, or whatever anyone says, none is born to defeat the party.”

Karunanidhi’s strong remarks come in the wake of internal bickering in its ranks, particularly between party treasurer-son M.K. Stalin who’s ardent supporter and party organising secretary Kalyanasundaram tendered conditional resignation demanding Stalin’s elevation. DMK’s popularity hit the nadir after the party drew a naught in the LS polls.
