Women CMs, Governors to get Bathukamma festival invites
The festival is to be celebrated in a manner similar to Dasara festivities in Mysore
Hyderabad: Grand celebrations are being planned for the first Bathukamma festival in the newly formed Telangana State. The Telangana government has decided to invite Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and all women Governors, Chief Ministers and Union ministers, besides other prominent national and international women personalities for the nine-day festival, to be held from September 24 to October 2. Tank Bund has been chosen as the venue for the festival.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who made Bathukamma a state festival, has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the festival to be celebrated in a manner similar to Dasara festivities in Mysore. He said he wanted the Telangana State's first Bathukamma to be celebrated in grand style.
A Bathukamma procession will be taken out from the Lal Bahadur stadium, with 25,000 women, to the Tank Bund on the last day. About 10,000 Bathukammas will be arranged at the stadium for the purpose.
Mr Rao and chief secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma, who held meetings with the concerned officials, took this decision. TRS MP K. Kavitha, advisor to the government (cultural affairs) Dr Ramanachary, and others were present.
“The CM wants Bathukamma to be celebrated in a befitting manner. We have decided to invite all the women CM and Union ministers. Invitations will be sent to them soon,” Dr Ramanachary said.
Kiran Bedi, Medha Patkar, Arundhati Roy, other prominent women world leaders besides IAS, IPS and other senior women officials will also be invited.
