Spooked techies flee Outer Ring Road sleuths
Duo spot strangers, fear trouble and speed away, chased
Hyderabad: Reports of gangrape, kidnappings and accidents on the Outer Ring Road have left people scared. So much so that the mere sight of three strangers approaching their car on the ORR spooked a pair of techies so much, that they recklessly sped away in poor visibility conditions. What scared them even more was the fact that these “three strangers” gave them a chase for kilometres on the expressway.
Thoroughly shaken, the two employees of I-Q Solutions, Madhapur, filed a verbal complaint at the RGIA police station.
Venkat Reddy, the RGIA, Rajendranagar police station circle inspector, said, “Two techies, a man and a woman, were heading towards the Go-Karting track at Shamshabad. At around 1.30 am, the two friends, travelling in an i10 car, stopped at the APPA junction in the main carriageway due to poor visibility, as it was raining very hard. They then spotted three men approaching them. Before these men could reach the i10, the techies sped off. In the verbal complaint, the duo stated that they were chased for kilometres on the expressway.”
Following the complaint, the Shamshabad assistant commissioner of police and his team were put on the job of tracing these three men and their vehicle. Finally, after two hours of patrolling, the vehicle, as described by the techies in the complaint, was spotted at the BHEL junction. On inspection, it was found that it belonged to the ORR vigilance officials employed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan development Authority.
The vigilance officials, Viswajit Singh, Mukesh and D. Praveen, spotted the i10 parked on the ORR carriageway. As parking on the carriageway is in violation to the ORR norms, the three officials decided to approach the i10 driver to tell him to move along. At the time of the incident, the three men were not in uniform and were driving a non-departmental vehicle.
Not knowing that the men approaching them were ORR vigilance officials, the techies got spooked and took off. The officials also chased the duo, but could not catch up with them.
After a thorough examination and checking of their identity cards, the officials were asked to appear before the station. Apart from the five patrolling cars, the HMDA has formed a a vigilance team to keep a check on the toll plazas and stop violations on the expressway.
