Clarify closure report on Birla: Court to CBI

Court pulled up CBI for ‘dumping’ illegible documents in the coal block allocation cases

New Delhi: The special CBI court gave the investigating officer probing the coal block allocations scam one hour to call his superior to clarify why the CBI wanted to close the file against industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla and others.

The IO didn’t bring the case diary and documents filed by the agency along with its final report, which irked the court.

It has asked for all clarifications on the next date.

Special CBI court judge Parashar said, “I will go through each and every document. This case cannot go on like this. I will understand only when I will be able to read out the documents. I am unable to read them. The CBI is only dumping files in the court.”

The IO had to call CBI SP Nirbhay Kumar, the supervisory officer, on the directions of the court. He also reiterated that the minutes of the screening committee meeting were “missing”.
