Tiny dancer stands tall

Akshat Singh says he isn’t disappointed at being eliminated
Akshat Singh, YouTube sensation, Salman Khan fan and the only child contestant on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa got eliminated this weekend. He made it to the top five, but could not make it to the finale. Is he disappointed? “No, I didn’t feel bad. Jeetna ya haarna mere haath mein nahi hai. I know I have won the audience’s heart so I feel that is equal to winning the Jhalak trophy,” he says.
Recounting his favourite moments from his journey on the show, Akshat tells us, “My favourite moment was of course meeting my idol Salman bhai. Then I also won the golden shoes and got a perfect score of 30. Another memorable moment was performing for orphans.”
Akshat goes on to add that although he was the only child on the show, he never feared competition from anyone, and says that he knew that the other contestants saw him as a worthy competitor. “Dance mein koi bada ya chhota nahi hota,” he says. “I got the highest scores that even the most popular actors on the show didn’t manage to get. I also won the dance marathon. My philosophy is tension lene ka nahi, sirf dene ka!”
So which contestants did Akshat get along with best? “Kiku (Sharda) uncle. He is a simple person and is fat like me,” says Akshat with a laugh. When asked about who among the remaining four contestants he would like to see as winner, Akshat says he still considers himself as the only winner of this season but if he still has to pick, it would be “Shakti (Mohan) didi” because “she’s a nice person”.
The young dancer says he doesn’t find juggling between studies and dance a problem. “Karna hi padega but I manage both well. After all main hoon bhaiyon ka bhai like Salman bhai!” he quips.
So how do his classmates react to his fame as a dancer? Akshat says, “Everyone from school is happy to see me on TV. At the moment they are sad that I am out as they had been voting for me. But I know that all the little kids across the world love me and had been asking their parents to vote for me, so it’s okay, I am happy with their love.”So is he open to more reality or dance shows after JDJ? “At the moment, I’m focusing on studies. But later I may take up a new show,” he says.
