Telangana State starts work on creation of new districts
The instructions were issued on the issue to commissioner of land administration B.R. Meena
Hyderabad: Telangana state government has initiated the process of setting up seven new districts in the first phase. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday asked senior officials of the revenue department to prepare a comprehensive report on the jurisdiction of the new districts and the existing districts.
The instructions were issued on the issue to commissioner of land administration B.R. Meena on Thursday. Official sources said the seven new districts likely to be created in the first phase include Mancherial, Jagitial, Siddipet, Vikarabad, Suryapet, Kothagudem and Nagarkurnool.
Mr Rao has been advocating creation of 14 new districts instead of the existing 10, making it 24 districts for better administration, ever since he assumed charge as Chief Minister.
He said the suggestions of all stakeholders will be taken into consideration before taking a decision on new districts. However, the proposal to create new districts in a haste without taking up a “scientific study” is being strongly opposed by the TD and the Congress.
As per the proposals prepared by the TRS government, the new districts that are sought to be created include Siddipet and Sangareddy in Medak district, Wanaparthy and Nagarkurnool in Mahbubnagar district, Suryapet in Nalgonda district, Bhadrachalam in Khammam district, Mancherial in Adilabad district, Jangaon, Jayashankar district in Warangal district, Jagitial in Karimnagar district. Besides, there are plans of reorganising Nizamabad and Rangareddy districts by allotting some areas in both these districts to Medak district, Hyderabad East and Secunderabad.
In the twin cities alone, new districts being planned are Hyderabad Central, Charminar, Golconda, Hyderabad East and Secunderabad. The creation of the remaining seven
districts would be taken up in the second phase.
