Protests over new districts

The people are demanding to set up Kamareddy district instead of Siddipet

Nizamabad: Carving out of new districts in Telangana State may be igniting disputes among the people.

Tentatively, the TRS government has decided to set up at least 7 new districts. At present there are 10 districts in the state and they would be increased to 17 districts soon.

In a latest move, the government directed the chief commissioner of land administration (CCLA) to submit proposals in this regard.

In the first phase, Mancherial of Adilabad district, Jagtial of Karimnagar, Siddipet of Medak, Vikarabad of Rangareddy, Suryapet of Nalgonda, Kotha-gudem of Khammam and Nagarkurnool of existing Mahabubnagar districts will be created as new districts.

It is believed that Kamareddy revenue division comprising of 10 revenue mandals and two Assembly constituencies like Kama-reddy and Yellareddy in Nizamabad district will be merged with the proposed Siddipet district.

But, people of Kamareddy division have strongly objected the proposal of merger, because Kamareddy is the oldest town in Telangana and is a major business centre.

In addition, the town has road and rail connectivity with NH-44 and Secunderabad-Manmad railway line.

The people are demanding to set up Kamareddy district instead of Siddipet.

They said that Siddipet had gain prominence just because of representation of chief minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao and his nephew T. Harish Rao. Geographically and infrastructure wise, Kamareddy is suitable for new district status.
