National Thermal Power Corporation surpasses target

It produced 8,200 MU against its target of 8,140 MU

KARIMNAGAR: Despite frequent closure of various units due to technical snags and other reasons, the National Thermal Power Corporation power station at Ramagundam seems to be performing well as suggested by its productivity.

Production of power was suspended for various reasons in its different units in the last few months.

Despite the frequent outages, the corporation was found to be generating more power than its target. The corporation produced 8,200 million units, as against its target of 8,140 MU during April to August.

In addition, the corporation could increase its plant load factor from 85.26 to 85.90. The PLF is the ratio of the actual output of a power plant over a period of time and its output if it had operated at full capacity in that time period.

The NTPC had established seven units with varied capacities of power production in three different phases at Jyothinagar in Ramagundam between 1983 and 2004.

The corporation is producing around 1,550 MW of power, as against its capacity 2,600 megawatts.

According to sources, the corporation registered shutdown of one or the other units for 25 times between April and August, due to unavailability of coal, force outages and annual overhaul.

The corporation’s units were closed down for 21 times due to outages caused by technical snags. The units did not function for three times owing to overhauling works. Once, unavailability of coal forced the corporation to suspend power generation at one unit.

“Generation of power is stalled for a brief period whenever there is a technical glitch. Outages are common for any power station. One or the other unit needs to undergo overhaul process at least once in a year in order to improve performance,” said an official.
