Farmers asked to air their views
Nellore: Kovur legislator Polamreddy Srinivasulu Reddy has appealed to the sugarcane farmers to bring their problems to the notice of a team appointed by the government to study the status of Kovur Cooperative Sugar Factory, which is in dire straits.
He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating a diagnostic centre, attached to veterinary hospital, built at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh at Kovur on Thursday. He prevailed upon the government to sanction Rs 6 crore to clear the outstanding dues of the sugarcane farmers.
He said that he had also discussed with the authorities to clear the salary arrears of the employees of the sugar factory. “I have urged the Chief Minister to sanction Rs 4 crore to take up crushing operations in the factory which is on the verge of closer,” the legislator said.
He revealed that the collector had suspended the sugar factory MD Sudhakar Reddy for misuse of funds. Mr Srinivasulu Reddy told the revenue officials to ensure MSP to paddy farmers while reminding that the farming community would suffer if the returns are meagre.
He said that the government has sanctioned Rs 2 crore for the proposed building to house the degree college in Kovur. Similarly, the state government has released Rs 14 crores to give a facelift to the road between Inamadugu Centre and Veguru, he added.
He dwelt at length on the benefits to the district because of Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor besides automobile hub and fertiliser factory proposed for the district.
Mr Srinivasulu Reddy came down heavily against YSR Congress chief Jagan Mohan Reddy for leaving the House when the government invited for a debate on law during the recent Assembly sessions.
