A team of 5 from the South Delhi civic body visit Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital
Chennai: Going by the increasing number of impressed dignitaries checking in at the Amma canteens in the city with an aim to replicate the model elsewhere, it seems that there is more than food to thought when it comes to the canteen’s resounding popularity.
A team of five from the South Delhi Municipal Corporation came calling at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) canteen on Thursday. They were to be followed by another delegation from the Anantapur Municipal Corporation in Andhra Pradesh who also visited the canteen that serves food at extremely affordable costs to people.
Stating that the Amma canteen model should be implemented across the country, J. Srinivasalu, commissioner of Anantapur Municipal Corporation, said, “The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister announced that similar canteens would be launched in the state on October 2.” He added that officials from various corporations and municipalities in Andhra Pradesh are visiting the canteens to effectively implement the model.
Earlier this month, a team of about 25 members from Chandigarh, led by its corporation mayor Harphool Chander Kalyan visited the canteen at the general hospital.
During the visit, the mayor expressed interest in replicating the canteens in his city. In all, there are about 200 corporation-run canteens in the city presently, with more in the offing.
