BJP eyes local body elections
Visakhapatnam: Looks like BJP is keen on strengthening its party base in Vizag and getting ready to face forthcoming GVMC polls on its own irrespective of the party’s alliance with TD in the state.
Party leaders have decided to organise regular meetings with cadres to prepare ground for civic body polls.
Interestingly, BJP’s ally, TD is yet to start its exercise to pep up its cadres for the GVMC polls.
Vizag MP and BJP state unit chief, Kam-bhampati Haribabu on Thursday, held a meeting with, party city office bearers and asked them to be ready to face the GV-MC polls. He asked them to begin the exercise of appointing party committees in all the wards in the run up to the polls.
It was reported in these columns earlier that, BJP which could get four MLAs and two MPs in AP in just concluded polls, due to its alliance with TD, seems to have now shifted focus towards strengthening the party and its leaders are said to be eyeing Vizag mayor’s post.
Though, the BJP won't contest on its own, but will go with TD in the upcoming GVMC polls, party is said to be interested in fielding majority of its candidates in the wards and insist on mayor chair if the alliance gets majority seats.
