Hyderabad: A hike in the fares of APSRTC buses is on the cards. The file pertaining to proposed hike has been submitted to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. A hike of 15 per cent to 20 per cent is likely, said a source adding that everyday the corporation is ending up with a deficit of Rs 2.5 crore compared to its income and revenue.
Though transport minister S. Raghava Rao did not divulge the proposed amount of hike, he said, “There is a need to hike the APSRTC bus fares, as the price of diesel has gone up on eight occasions in last one year. Chief Minister will take a final decision in this regard.” The minister added that people want luxurious travel and are willing to pay for it.
