Queen not to intervene, PM urges to save ‘family’
David Cameron has urged Scottish voters not to break up the British “family”
London: British Prime Minister David Cameron has urged Scottish voters not to break up the British “family” in an independence referendum next week even as Buckingham Palace has made it clear that Queen Elizabeth will not enter the debate on referendum. Writing in the Daily Mail, Mr Cameron told Scots: “We desperately want you to stay; we do not want this family of nations to be ripped apart.”
Mr Cameron and the leaders of the Labour and Liberal Democrat parties canceled a weekly Parliamentary question session to make a late campaign trip to Scotland on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, some British MPs had requested the Queen to “save the Union.” Amid such reports, a spokesman of the Buckingham Palace said, “As such the monarch is above politics and those in political office have a duty to ensure this remains the case.”
