Another city layout, another scam?

'Once the report comes out, we will take a call' - Mr Shettar, Karnataka BJP

Bengaluru: Even before the controversy over the denotification of land in Arkavathy Layout in the city could die out comes another controversy pertaining to the denotification of land in Shivaram Karanth Layout.

Releasing copies of a BDA order in which deputy commissioner (land acquisition) ordered the deletion of four acres and six guntas of land from being notified, former chief minister and BJP leader, Jagadish Shettar said, "This is just the tip of the iceberg. I think hundreds of acres of land are being denotified. In the days to come, we will get details," he disclosed.

On the Arkavathy denotification scam, Mr Shettar reiterated that the government was trying to tamper with the records of Arkavathy Layout by fully deleting the names of BDA from land denotified.

"After ordering a judicial probe, how can the government make changes in the documents. This should be immediately stopped," he said. Asked why the BJP had not resorted to legal recourse, Mr Shettar said the committee headed by former minister Suresh Kumar would submit its report very soon. "Once the report comes out, we will take a call. We are still demanding a CBI probe. Then, we will also consider approaching the high court," Mr Shettar said.

He warned that BJP would stage a dharna before the CM's residence if the notices given to slum dwellers to vacate their places are not withdrawn.
