Voluntary group chips in with for Jammu & Kashmir floods relief

'Kashmir Rescue', Bengaluru has already dispatched its first container of relief material

Bengaluru: Even before the Karnataka government announced any financial support for the flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir relief work, two organizations in the city have started collecting money/ clothes, food and medicines for lakhs of people who were affected by floods in Jammu and Kashmir.

An organisation launched on Facebook, called 'Kashmir Rescue' from Bengaluru has already dispatched its first container of relief materials to Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking to this newspaper, Mr. Nadeem Khan, a volunteer, informed that they have sent 350 blankets, 400 liters of drinking water, 280 kg baby food and 500 strips of different medicines to the flood-hit areas of Jammu and Kashmir. "We are glad that we are getting a spontaneous response to our request. If anyone comes forward to donate money, we are ready to coordinate with the state government," he said.

Mr Khan said this volunteers' group has set up collection centers at parts of the city, including RT Nagar, JP Nagar, Frazer Town, Nagwar Manyata Tech Park, Hebal, White field, Koramangla, Arekari, Yelanka, CV Raman Nagar, Malleshpalya, Indra Nagar, Leela Palace, Domlur, HAL and BTM Layout & HSR Layout.

The RSS state unit has also launched a relief fund. It has directed its cadres and supporters to donate to the fund, which will be utilised for rehabilitation projects. An RSS press release stated thousands of its cadres are already involved in relief work and funds generated through the general public would be utilized for the various developmental works in the state.
