Busted: Sri Lankan nabbed in Hyderabad for spy case

NIA officials have also seized incriminating evidence from him

Hyderabad: NIA officials arrested a Sri Lankan national on Wednesday in connection with the sensational Thameem Ansari spy case. The NIA officials said the suspect, Arun Selvarajan, had an Indian passport too.

The espionage case is the first to be taken up by the NIA from TN. Thameem Ansari was arrested from Tiruchy in 2012.
NIA officials said that Selvarajan has been engaging in espionage for the neighbouring country. “He was passing on classified information using the Internet,” the official said. Selvarajan is suspected to have collected vital information about south Indian defence installations.
NIA officials have also seized incriminating evidence from him. Selvarajan was earlier involved in criminal cases in Sri Lanka and the enforcement agencies had issued lookout notices for him. The Thameem Ansari spy case was earlier probed by the CID of TN till last year. The NIA took over in 2013, border investigation.
