Madras Port Trust sops to Sri City units

Several stakeholders at Sri City discuss the issues of mutual interest
Nellore: Chairman of The Chennai Port Trust, Atulya Misra, IAS has offered cost effective services to the all the industrial units located at Sri City. He was addressing a trade meet organized by the Port Trust in association with Sri City management at Sri City multi-product special economic zone located in Tada town of SPSR Nellore district on Wednesday. Several importers, exporters and other stakeholders at Sri City took part in the programme and discussed the issues of mutual interest.
Assuring all support and priority in rendering services to the units in Sri City Mr Misra said, “We are ready to create a separate enclosure at Chennai Port for Sri City exporters/importers for facilitating quick clearance. I suggest Sri City to appoint a liaison officer for coordination at our end.”
He requested the industrial units to check with their service providers the actual cost of transacting with any other port and choose wisely.
“Being a government port, Chennai port is able to offer cost effective services,” Mr Misra added.
Extending a warm welcome to Mr Misra, other senior officials of Chennai Port Trust, and the participants of the meeting, Mr Ravindra Sanna Reddy, Managing Director, Sri City, thanked Chennai Port Trust for organising the meet.
He appealed all the stakeholders to actively participate and interact with the Port Trust authorities.
Mr Ravindra Sannareddy said, “Besides several factors, ‘nearness to port/railway station/airport’ is an important feature that adds to the comparative advantages while forming an industrial cluster.
Connected well with Chennai / Ennore / Krishnapatnam ports, Sri City offers an ideal location for companies to set up not only their manufacturing bases but also to have large distribution-cum-warehouse facilities.”
N. Vijayapuri, traffic manager, Chennai Port, gave a lucid presentation on the facilities and services, and special features of Chennai Port.
Ennarasu Karunesan, CEO of Chennai Container Terminal Pvt Ltd. (CCTPL) and Ms. Susmita of Chennai International Terminal Pvt., Ltd. (CITPL) gave a talk on the facilities and services being offered at container terminals.
Anil K Choudhary, Development Commissioner, Sri City, I. Jeyakumar, Deputy Chairman, Chennai Port and G.M. Krishnamurthy, Trustee, Chennai Port also spoke.
