BJP President Amit Shah charged for Muzaffarnagar hate speech
Shah allegedly made a hate speech in Muzaffarnagar during Lok Sabha campaigning
Lucknow/New Delhi: A chargesheet was filed on Wednesday in a Muzaffarnagar court against BJP president Amit Shah by the UP police for making an alleged hate speech in Muzaffarnagar as campaigning was going on for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Mr Shah landed in a major controversy as he allegedly told voters that the Lok Sabha polls were an opportunity to seek “revenge for the insult” inflicted on them during the 2013 riots in Muzaffarnagar.
“If you want to avenge the humiliation, then you should vote for the BJP. You can no longer resolve a matter with swords and arrows. Today you can take revenge by voting for the BJP,” he had said at an election meeting.
The chargesheet was filed against Mr Shah for allegedly seeking votes on the grounds of religion, race, caste and community.
The BJP, reacting to the filing of the chargesheet, said it was a part of the “conspiracy” against the party and that it was “politically motivated”.
New Mandi Circle DSP Yogendra Singh told reporters in Muzaffarnagar that the chargesheet was filed under various IPC sections, including 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, etc), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage the religious feelings of any class); and 505 (false statement, rumour, circulated with an intent to cause mutiny or offence against the public peace); and Section 123(3) of the Representation of the People Act (making an appeal to vote on grounds of religion.)
