19 of marriage party from Belgaum missing in J&K floods
Belgaum: Nineteen members of a family in Belgaum, who had gone to Srinagar for a wedding, are stranded in the flood-ravaged state. Mr A.R. Desai, a resident of Shahu Nagar, and 18 of his relatives left for Srinagar on September 4 and were expected to return on September 9.
The family reached Srinagar on September 6 and attended the wedding the next day, but lost contact with their relatives back home on Tuesday. Mr Junaid Desai, son of Mr A.R. Desai, tied the knot with Ms Ikra, a girl from Srinagar.
The family was getting ready to leave Srinagar when the floods hit. All of them were stranded in the house they were staying in. Mr Habibulla Desai and his wife Rahila, who stayed back in Belgaum, said that two children are part of the group.
They have been trying to contact the group members since Tuesday, but have not been able to. Belgaum Deputy Commissioner N. Jairam said that his officials are trying to get details of people from the district missing in Jammu and Kashmir. The police are also trying to establish contact with the missing people,.
