Young couple seeks protection

The girl’s parents threatened her with dire consequences and the couple
Visakhapatnam: A newly married intercaste couple on Wednesday approached deputy commissioner of police (Law and Order) B. Srinivasulu for protection after the bride’s family threatened her with dire consequences. According to reports, Pusapati Sindhu (18 years and 5 months), niece of U.V.R. Raju (Kannababu) former Elamanchili and G. Vamsi, employee at HSBS, had been in love and they got married at Simhachalam temple on September 8 against the wishes of the bride’s parents after Sindhu’s parents refused the marriage citing Vamsi belonged to a different caste.
On Tuesday, the couple had gone to the registrar office to register their marriage. However, the bride’s parents managed to separate them, obstructed the marriage registration and also lodged a complaint with III Town (MVP Zone) police citing that Vamsi kidnapped their daughter Sindhu, who is a minor and married her.
Sindhu’s parents threatened her with dire consequences and the couple with the support of Women’s organisations on Wednesday approached the DCP for protection. Since the case was filed at MVP Zone, the couple along with the date of birth certificate of Sindhu went to the police station and she has produced a DOB certificate citing that she is a major (born on April 16, 1996).
The MVP police have closed the case. “We have been in love for the past few years and got married on Monday. When my father and uncles found out about our wedding, they threatened us. My family will not allow us to live in peace. So, we approached the cops, said Sindhu, a CA student. The DCP asked the couple to give a phone call to him if in trouble and the police will react immediately and will give protection.
