Pune: In another shocking incident, a 15-year-old boy tried to stab his mother with a kitchen knife, after he was denied internet access on his computer and smartphone, as reported in the Mumbai Mirror.
Though no one was injured, the child’s parents were taken aback by the incident. The boy was then taken to a mental hospital in Mumbai for consultation.
According to the report, the Pune science student, spent hours on his smartphone and computer, ignoring his studies and family. He had around 500 friends, most of whom he had never met in person on different social networking platforms like WhatsApp, LINE, WeeChat, Viber.
Initially the boy obeyed all instructions when taken to the hospital. However, later he posed nude in protest against the decision to take him to the hospital.
The teen was given shock treatment as part of his psychiatric treatment. As reported, “The boy had become so hooked to his online life and friends that he lost his mental balance," said a doctor at the hospital.
"His life revolved around the online connections. He would skip school so he could talk to them when they were free," the boy's father said.
