Jammu and Kashmir floods: Honeymooners among those stranded

Three honeymooning couples from the state were stranded in Jammu and Kashmir
Bengaluru: Among those stranded in Kashmir post-floods were three honeymooning couples. Of these, two couples are back while another couple is still stranded. Their relatives and friends are trying to reach them through the state disaster management authority as well as their mobile numbers, which were not reachable till Tuesday evening.
Dr. Sachin and Dr. Veena, who are both working at AIMS, Bellur Cross, in Mandya district, got married recently and went to Srinagar for their honeymoon. Dr. Veena is the daughter of Mr. H Thimmappa, a retired DySP of Davanagere.
They had informed their family members that they were staying at hotel Senator Pine N Peak, Pahalgam, in Srinagar. But now their relatives from Bengaluru can’t get in touch with them. “We are now using all our contacts to try and reach them. We have brought the issue to the notice of the disaster management authority. We are very worried,” said Mr.Srinivas, brother of Dr.Veena. Mr. Srinivas is working as an IT consultant in the city.
Dr. Maneesh and Dr.Anupama who are also surgeons by profession, went to Kashmir for their honeymoon. Mr. Balasubramanya, a social activist and family friend, told this newspaper that the couple reached Srinagar airport on Sunday afternoon on a Spice Jet flight.
“Due to heavy rain and floods, the airport authorities did not allow them to move out of the airport. As the rain continued, they were sent back to the New Delhi airport on Monday evening. Now, they are at New Delhi,” he said.
Mr. and Mrs Raghavendra Prasad, a couple from Mysore, also underwent a similar experience. “Army personnel helped us to reach safely. We are leaving for Karnataka soon,” they informed their family members.
