Man kills lover for insisting on marriage
VELLORE: A 25-year-old auto driver, who fell in love with a 28-year-old woman, murdered her on his birthday when the girl pestered him to marry her.
According to Vaniyambadi taluk police station inspector Mahalakshmi, Vinodh (25), son of Raja, a driver, and resident of Ammalan street, Govindapuram, Vaniyambadi taluk, was in love with Metha (28), daughter of Stalin, who was running a beauty parlour and was a resident of Eri Kutty village, Thenampet, Gudiyattam taluk.
Vinodh and Metha met frequently over the last two years during which time she would repeatedly ask him to marry her, but Vinodh kept postponing the marriage.
According to Vinodh, who confessed to the police when they questioned him later, he invited Metha to celebrate his birthday on Monday.
Both met at their customary spot, near a well in Oosithoppu village. During the course of their conversation, Metha again pestered him to marry her immediately or that she would take revenge on him.
Vinodh, who said he lost his patience, suddenly took out an iron rod from his friend Bhaskaran’s car, and hit her on the head with it. She suffered grievous injuries and died on the spot. He then flung the body into the well and fled.
Metha’s elder brother Satish filed a complaint with the taluk police about his missing sister. On Tuesday morning, some villagers reported to the police that they had seen a body floating in a well.
The police fished out the body and it was later identified as that body of the beautician. The police, upon inquiries, suspected that Vinodh must be the person behind the murder and arrested him.
After the arrest, Vinodh spilled the beans and confessed that it was he who had murdered her though he was prepared to marry Metha after a few years. Vinodh was remanded in judicial custody and further investigations are on.
