APSRTC staff justify strike call, talks on
Employees said that unless an agreement is reached strike will go continue
Vijayawada: APSRTC employees are determined to go ahead with their proposed strike from September 11 if the talks between them and the governments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh fail. Justifying the decision to go ahead with the strike, APSRTC Employees Union for Krishna, Guntur and Godavari districts M.D. Prasad said, “The two governments have to clear due of Rs775 crore to the RTC under several schemes. The TS and AP governments said that they were releasing Rs 500 crore, but the RTCs hasn’t received a single rupee so far. Even if they release the money, there will be another Rs 275 crore due from the two governments.”
“The governments may say that losses would occur if the employees go on strike. We agree, but we are being forced to take that path. Besides, they cut our salaries if we go on strike. Since the RTC is incurring a loss of Rs 2.5 crore daily, it will finally not be too much of a loss.”The unions affiliated to CITU have already said they will participate in the strike while NMU is said to be on the verge of taking a positive decision soon.
Meanwhile, APSRTC officials will discuss the proposed strike with employees’ unions in Hyderabad on Tuesday. A final decision on the strike will be taken depending on the outcome of the discussion.
