Plastic unit gutted in massive fire
Seven fire tenders were required for dousing flames after 3-hour battle
Coimbatore:Fire broke out at a plastic manufacturing unit in Athupalam in Ukkadam on Monday morning. The fire officials suspect that Rs 30 lakh worth of plastic material and things have been damaged in the fire mishap, the police said.
According to the Kuniamuthur police, Abudhakeer (40) of Saramedu and his two friends, in a partnership, own a plastic manufacturing unit in the name of Chennai Traders in Guruvaiya Nadu street in Athupalam, near Ukkadam.
In the manufacturing unit, they grind the plastic waste and process it for making plastic material. On Sunday night, after working hours, Abudhakeer had locked the unit and gone home. On Monday, around 2 am, a fire mishap occurred in the unit, which widely spread to the entire unit. Alert residents nearby informed the fire service and owner Abudhakeer.
A 25-member team from the fire service department rushed with seven fire tenders. The team of firefighters battled the flames for more than three hours and put it out. In the mishap, packing machines, processing machines, plastic material and a motorbike were gutted. At least '30 lakh worth of products were damage in the fire mishap, said the police.
The fire officials suspect that the mishap could have happened due to short circuit. The Kuniamuthur police registered a case and are investigating.
