Perundurai med college fails to reimburse full amount
Chennai: Parents of students, who got seats re allotted from IRT Perundurai medical college to Thiruvarur medical college, submitted a petition on Monday to the Director of Medical Education claiming that the Perundurai medical college did not reimburse the full amount paid by them.
Ayyamperumal, parent of Gayathri from Mettur, said that his daughter, was admitted in MBBS under government quota at IRT Perundurai medical college in the first phase of counseling and later was allotted a seat in Thiruvarur government college in the second round.
A total of 39 students joined IRT and then got admitted in Thiruvarur medical college when the government college got permission for 100 seats. “While 38 students joined Thiruvarur college, one student opted for Sivagangai medical college. We paid Rs 2.65 lakh fees, but only Rs 1.98 lakh was reimbursed,” said student Gayathri.
Another parent, K. Balusamy from Erode district, said they hoped the college would reimburse the full amount.
Meanwhile, at the final phase of MBBS counselling on Monday, 180 candidates were allotted seats at government medical colleges. A total of 900 candidates were called for the counselling and 500 candidates attended it on the first day.
On Tuesday, 62 vacant government seats will be filled up, informed secretary of selection committee Dr R.G. Sukumar. The final phase of counselling ends on Wednesday.
