Dr Manjulamma, has appealed to the people to make eye donation as part of tradition and culture

Nellore: Programme manager of District Blind Control Society, Dr Manjulamma, has appealed to the people to make eye donation as part of tradition and culture. She was addressing a programme organised at Indian Medical Association Hall here on Monday on the occasion of 29th National Eye Donation Fortnight. She reminded that the donation is an invaluable gift since it gives a new lease of life to the visually impaired.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr L.S. Jyothi of Modern Eye Hospital gave a power point presentation on corneal transplantation they are carrying out successfully. She dwelt at length on the surgical procedure where a damaged or diseased cornea is replaced with donated corneal tissue in its entirety or in part. Three patients, who underwent the procedure in Modern Hospital, shared their experience and claimed that their vision has improved by manifolds after the surgery. Superintendent of government headquarters hospital, Dr Ravindranadh Tagore, in-charge district coordinator of hospital services, Dr K.V. Ramanaiah, IMA president, Dr P. Srinivasa Teja, chief of ophthalmology wing in Narayana General Hospital, Dr G. Chandrasekhar were present in the programme.
