Curbs on vendors to ensure safety
Warning boards were set up restricting their entry on the bund
Hyderabad: Hawkers and vendors, who came to the Hussainsagar Lake to sell their wares to the devotees, had a tough time with cops asking them to stay away. Warning boards were set up restricting their entry on the bund, where the main procession of idols was expected to come in.
Every hawker spotted by the officials was detained, and allowed to go after a warning. The hawkers were not allowed to linger around in crowded places and were asked to move to other places, like the end of the bund.
Officials said it was necessary to place restrictions on them as large crowds were expected. Right from peanuts vendors to ice cream sellers and toy sellers were restricted.
“On such occasions we have to restrict them. With lakhs of people coming, we need to be alert and cannot take any risk,” said a senior police official from the Central Zone. The security has been beefed up following Al-Qaeda chief’s statement of forming a branch in the Indian sub-continent.
