Attorney General assures better traffic next year

GHMC makes fool-proof arrangement for Ganesha immersion; but motorists stuck in massive jams
Hyderabad: The Chief Justice expressed his displeasure at the several roads blocks in the city set up for the Ganesha immersion. The Chief Justice reacted sharply to the situation and said, “The government declares a holiday on the one hand and wants urgent matters to be heard on the other.”
He was not satisfied with the reply of the AG that traffic regulations were inevitable during immersion day, as the roads are narrow.
Justice Sengupta said he had never come across a state declaring a holiday for such occasions.
The CJ said “People expect the courts to work 24 hours. Can there be holidays for hospitals and courts? What is the point in having a government, when even ambulances are unable to move?”
The AG assured the court that he would convey to the government and the authorities about the need for keeping in place an alternative plan from next year.
Two festivals choke traffic:
This year, the Khairatabad region witnessed massive traffic jams as Ganesh immersion coincided with Mother Mary’s Feast at the Our Lady of Health Church. A procession by the church was taken out in the evening keeping cops on their toes.
“Keeping in mind the two occasions, the Khairatabad church held midnight service on Sept. 7, which went on till 1 am,” said a member of the church. The procession was taken out at 4pm like always. As a result, the entire stretch from Neredmet crossroads till mini Tank Bund, Safilguda, was crippled as the bad condition of road only added to the woes.
