Chennai: In yet another show of student violence in the city on Anna Salai, a 19-year-old student of Government Nandanam college of arts & sciences was brutally attacked by a gang of four, suspected to be comprising rival college students on Monday. This is the second such incident of armed students trying to settle scores on Anna Salai in the last fortnight or so, leaving onlookers in a state of shock.
Police said P. Chakravarthy, 19, a first year B.Com(Corporate) student and resident of Bharathi Nagar II Street, Ernavur, was waiting for his bus after he got down from MTC bus (18 K) near Spencer Plaza around 3 pm after college when the incident took place.
A four-member gang approached him and attacked him with knives and sickles which they were hiding in their bags. Chakravarthy, who collapsed in his bid to protect himself, was injured in his hands and on his head. At least two of his fingers were chopped off and he had two other cut injuries, including one on his head.
A Thousand Lights police station team rushed to the spot and took the boy to hospital. The student was admitted to Government Royapettah hospital and was later moved to Government Stanley hospital for treatment.
Police said they are yet to identify the gang involved in the attack since the boy was not talking.
