‘People can be very judgemental’

Rani Mukerji gets candid about her views in the industry

Bollywood: Rani Mukerji is very pleased with the response to Mardaani. Her depiction of a female cop challenged Bollywood patterns and the risk paid off handsomely.

The actress says, “It has wiped off a lot of prejudice that people have about female officers. Women cops are in fact far braver in the way they work. We have busted many myths.” She isn’t opposed to the idea of a sequel. “I would love to as long as the subject is interesting. The content needs to be good. A franchise cannot just be about making money,” Rani says.

Rani, who is slowly and steadily settling into married life, feels that some things never change. The late Yash Chopra had made a rule that he and Adi would have to take their lunch together along with the other employees, no matter how busy they got. Rani says that Adi has still kept the tradition alive. “So many times I offer to send food from home. But he says ‘No, I’ll eat with my team’.”

Even though Aditya has always tried his best to keep his personal life under wraps, it is known that he starts his day at 10 in the morning and winds up by 10 at night. Through the day he juggles meetings with the respective teams of each film being produced by him. Rani doesn’t mind Adi’s workaholic nature at all. She says, “I believe every individual needs to follow his own path to do what he believes in. There are lot of trials and tribulations in this field, people can be very judgemental. With the adulation, comes the criticism. Being Yash Chopra’s son, Adi has always been behind the camera. Films are what keep him going. And I think he goes about it with a lot of flair.”
