After 15 years, BJP closer to government formation in Delhi

The Assembly speaker will reportedly evoke a provision in the NCT Act of 1991

New Delhi: The process of government formation in Delhi will begin within the next 48 hours. A highly-placed source said that lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung is all set to write a letter to Delhi Assembly Speaker M.S. Dhir to convene a special session of the 67-member House, which is under the suspended animation.

Meanwhile, a petition, seeking dissolution of the Assembly, is slated to come up for hearing before the SC on Tuesday. According to sources, the Speaker would convene a special Session and ask all the members to elect their leader through a secret ballot after reportedly reading out the lieutenant-governor’s message in the House, requesting all members to elect their new leader.

The Speaker will reportedly evoke a provision in the NCT Act of 1991 to break the deadlock in the government formation by offering an option to choose the CM through a secret ballot.
