Telangana: Will it rain? Or won’t it?
Hyderabad: The Met has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Monday in Warangal, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad and Medak apart from the city and RR district.
But Dr Y.K. Reddy of the Hyderabad Met said on Sunday that rains are likely to decrease in the next four days.
Heavy rain is expected to occur in Hyderabad and five Telangana districts with a low pressure system in Bay of Bengal moving inwards.
This forecast runs contrary to the one made by the Indian Meteorolo-gical Department.
The IMD had said on Saturday that the low pressure would intensify into a depression and cause heavy rainfall in coastal Andhra Pradesh. Sunday was largely sunny in coastal Andhra Pradesh and the low pressure moved inwards towards Chhattisgarh and will weaken gradually over the next couple of days.
In a release on Sunday, the Meteorological Centre at Hyderabad issued a heavy rainfall warning for Monday in Warangal, Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad and Medak apart from the city and surrounding Ranga Reddy districts.
No rain warning was issued for Tuesday.
In its release on Saturday, the IMD had said the well marked low pressure area would intensify into a depression by Sunday and bring further rainfall to both coastal AP and Telangana.
In a Sunday update, Dr Y.K. Reddy, director in-charge, Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad, said the outlook for the next four days is a decrease in rainfall.
Hyderabad could also experience heavy rainfall in the time between Sunday and Tuesday morning. IMD and Met agencies across South Asia reported that the low pressure area now lies over Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh.
“The sea was its strength. Now that it is over land, it will weaken quickly. Our long range predictions are very strong and accurate but short range forecasts can go wrong at times. There are many factors involved,” a meteorologist at the Hyderabad Met centre said.
