Satavahana varsity to reopen today
Karimnagar: The Satavahana University, which was closed indefinitely last week following protests by students seeking better amenities in hostels, will be reopened on Monday.
According to registrar Komal Reddy, the hostels and classes would resume functioning from Monday. The announcement on reopening of the varsity brought relief to many students.
The decision on reopening was taken following many representations by the students.
Students of the university took to streets and staged protests demanding basic facilities at the hostels on the campus and against alleged abusive remarks of the principal of Arts College.
The protests began on Monday and ended on Thursday, forcing the management of institution to close hostels, classes.
The district authorities spoke to the students and faculty members of the institution over closure of the institution.
Meanwhile, the students submitted representations to the governor, the chairman and secretary of higher education and the registrar seeking reopening of the university as it would affect their studies.
Heeding to their requests, the authorities have taken a favourable decision and the university will be reopened on Monday.
