Process to split Khammam starts

About 120 acres had been identified to set up government offices

Khammam: After Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao made an announcement on constituting a new district with Kothagudem as the district headquarters, officials have swung into action to acquire lands to construct buildings and set up offices of various government departments.

The Telangana state government had already declared setting up of a super-specialty hospital and a medical college which would serve the employees of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL).

The Telangana government also evolved a plan for the comprehensive development of the proposed Kothagudem district. About 120 acres had been identified to set up government offices and for other purposes.

Two new industrial zones have also been planned in the new district proposed to generate employment. Meanwhile, the SCCL has intensified its operations in the open cast mines in the district to unearth more coal to cater to the needs of new thermal power units.

People from various other places in Khammam district reach Kotha-gudem in large numbers to sell and buy household articles and for various other purposes everyday.

Kothagudem MLA Venkata Rao exuded confidence that Kothagudem will emerge as a medical and health hub in the coming days in view of the medical college and superspeciality hospital to be set up here.
