Over 100 Keralites stranded in Jammu and Kashmir
Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: More than 100 people from Kerala on a visit to Jammu and Kashmir have been stranded there due to floods, prompting Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to seek the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to evacuate them.
In a letter to Modi, he said the Keralites, who went in different batches, were stranded in hotels for the last two days.
Their relatives have been trying desperately to contact them but all efforts had failed, Chandy said.
"I would, therefore, request you to ask concerned officials to take steps to evacuate all those people who have been stranded on a war footing," he added.
He also asked the Prime Minister to take steps to airlift those, who have managed to reach Srinagar airport, to New Delhi.
Chandy said a control room had been opened at the Kerala House in New Delhi to assist the relatives of those stranded in Jammu and Kashmir.
