Many villages marooned due to heavy rain

20 villages each in Wankdi, Bejjur mandals get isolated as streams overflow

Adilabad: The low pressure area-induced rains for the last two days wreaked havoc in Adilabad district. Following the incessant rains in the last two days, road transportation to 20 villages in Kannargoan and Chopanguda gram panchayats got affected as the Chikli vagu began overflowing in Wankidi mandal.

The streams of Kukuda, Krishnapalli, Rechini and Pedda are also overflowing affecting transportation to another 20 villages in Bejjur mandal.

Road transportation was affected to Jingalpet, Manneguda and Konampet as Kummarivagu and Mattarivagu are also overflowing in Nennela mandal.

Many roads were also breached due to the rains following which the RTC could not operate buses properly in these places.Many other rivulets are also overflowing with floodwaters. In some places, low-lying bridges were inundated.

All irrigation projects have been receiving good inflows following the rains. River Penganga and Pranahitha are also in spate due to heavy rains following heavy rains in upstream Maharashtra.

The rains also damaged crops in several areas. Paddy crop got inundated in Nennela mandal.

Heavy rains lashed Nirmal, Kagaznagar, Bellampalli towns, apart from Adilabad mandal.

The rain waters inundated the villages of Nagulavai and Krishna-palli forcing the villagers to take shelter in government school buildings.

MLA Koneru Konappa of Sirpur (T) visited Nagulavai and interacted with the affected villagers and instructed officials to take up relief measures.

In Bellampalli, the Ramnagar vagu is over flowing affecting traffic on the railway under bridge. Three houses collapsed in Hanuman basti. However, no casualties were reported. Vehicular movement was disrupted on the main road near Ramakrishna theatre due to water-logging.

A control room has been set up at the collectorate here on Sunday to provide help and take up relief measures for the flood-affected.

Several villages in the district were marooned following the incessant rains.

In a statement, collector M. Jagan Mohan informed that people affected by floods and rains and in need of government help can contact the control room.

He said the control room will function round-the-clock and that officials will take up relief measures promptly without any delay. The flood-affected people or others in need of help can contact 08732-22302, 222802 and 225529 for aid.
