Incessant rain cheers Nizamabad farmers

The officials estimated 3.98 lakh hectares would be cultivated in kharif

Nizamabad: Incessant rains brought cheer to farmers in Nizamabad district. Rains rekindled the hopes of farmers on better yield as they feared heavy loss due to the drought conditions earlier.

Nizamabad district received 7.6 mm rainfall on Sunday. By this time of the year, the district should receive 762.8 mm normal rainfall but it received onlly 403.9 mm which means there is a deficit of 411.5 mm rainfall.

The officials estimated 3.98 lakh hectares would be cultivated in kharif but sowing was done only in 30.9 lakh ha (95 per cent).

Mainly, paddy is being sown in 92,332 ha (74 percent) and rains will boost up the yield of paddy, maize, jowar and other pulses.

The farmers in Bodhan revenue division preferred soyabean to overcome the shortage of rainfall. The sown area is gone up to1.20 lakh hectors from 1.24 lakh hectors had sown in last year. It is noted that normal crop area in the district is only 70,000 hectors, but it is increased upto 170 percent treating it as rainfed crop.
