Budget session of Puducherry Assembly starts today
The session is the first after Parliamentary polls and will last for ten days
Puducherry: The Budget session of the Puducherry Assembly begins on Monday post the April LS election in which the ruling AINRC romped home the winner by defeating former Union Minister V. Narayanasamy (Congress) and securing the lone seat in this Union Territory. The session, which is likely to last for about ten days, is the first after the Parliamentary polls. The opposition is likely to raise several issues.
The Congress has alleged that the government was procuring rice at a higher cost, thus causing loss to the exchequer. But Chief Minister N. Rangasamy quickly dismissed the charge as “political drama” by the Congress.
The session is expected to be stormy as the opposition parties including the Congress with seven members, AIADMK and DMK with five and two MLAs, respectively, are likely to pin down the ruling AINRC government with 19 legislators in the 33-member House, on certain crucial issues.
The session will begin with the customary address by the Lt Governor of Puducherry Lt General (retd) A K Singh and Mr. Rangasamy, who holds the Finance portfolio, would present the budget for 2014-15 fiscal on September 11. In view of the LS polls, the House had passed Appropriation (vote on account) Bill in the one-day session held on March 12.
