Gang of 20 assaults head constable
The victim had come to attend relative's function when he was attacked
Tiruvarur: A police head constable was grievously injured and hospitalised after he was attacked and thrashed by an unidentified gang in the communally-sensitive Muthupettai on Saturday night.
Chandrasekaran (42) of Rayiladitheru in Udhaya Marthandapuram, near Muthupettai, and serving as head constable at Thiruthuraipoondi police station, came to Muthupettai to attend a relative’s function to be held at Sakthi Ramajayam marriage hall.
Chandrasekaran reportedly knocked on the door of a house located opposite the marriage hall and asked for water to drink. Then, an unidentified gang of 20 persons who came there attacked Chandrasekaran with logs and sticks and fled.
The policeman, who was grievously injured, was admitted to the Thiruthuraipoondi government hospital. Later, he was shifted to the government medical college hospital in Tiruvarur.Based on a complaint from Chandrasekaran, the police registered a case and are investigating.
