Anantapur: Anantapur Mayor M. Swaroopa on Saturday inspected implementation of midday meal scheme at Nehru elementary school and Urdu school at Court Road area in the city limits following complaints lodged by the parents that substandard food being served for children. The mayor expressed her displeasure over the poor quality of food being served to children and questioned the headmasters of the school Gangadhar and Khalimulla Khan.
The headmasters said that they have lodged a complaint in this regard to higher officials but there was no response from them. They appealed to mayor to replace the midday meal agency and take steps for serving nutritious food for the children. Mayor said the scheme aimed to provide nutritious food to lure children to school. The Mayor said that she would take action after discussing the issue with district education officer. Earlier, the Mayor planted a sapling at 3rd cross and called upon people to protect the environment by planting more saplings. She asked the people to protect saplings by installing tree guard. She also sought people's cooperation in making the Neeru-Chettu programme a grand success.
