Reward for information on stolen idols

The idols are around 1,000 and 900 years old respectively
Chennai: The Idol wing of state CID police has identified two antique idols of the Chola era, a Sambanthar idol and a Natarajar idol, suspected to be stolen from temples in the Tamil Nadu.
The idols are around 1,000 and 900 years old respectively. An official release claimed that the idol wing had got reliable inputs regarding their presence at a museum in a foreign country which had bought the idols for a huge sum.
However, the idol wing is unable to proceed further in this case and launch proceedings to recover the idols from the foreign museum because of lack of complete information about which temples they belonged to and when they had gone missing.
“The concerned officials and public are requested to share information if they know or have heard anything about these idols and their theft from a temple in their locality or nearby place,” the release said, adding that the alert could be sent through SMS or phone call to 96000-43442.
“A reward of Rs 25,000 will be given for authentic information. The informer’s identity will not be revealed,” said the release.
