Gaiety marks Pavitrotsavam
Tirupati: Spiritual pomp and gaiety marked the three-day annual Pavitrotsavam being held at the holy abode of Goddess Padmavathi at Tiruchanoor and at the ancient Lord Govindaraja Swamy temple in Tirupati on Saturday. The festivities at the temple began with the processional deities taken to the Yagashala where the temple priests performed special rituals including ‘Pavi-tra Pratista’ as per the Agamas.
Later the celestial ‘Snapana Tirumanjanam’ was performed to the Goddess Padmavathi amidst the chanting of the Vedic hymns by the priests. Goddess Padmavathi was later decked up with dazzling jewels and silk vastrams. In view of the three-day annual festival, the temple administration has cancelled Arjitha Sevas at the Tiruchanoor temple. Special grade Deputy Executive Officer Ms Chenchu Lakshmi along with other officials of the TTD and hundreds of devotees took part in the Pavitrotsavam festivities at the Tiruchanoor temple.
Meanwhile, as part of the Pavitrotsavam festivities at the Govindaraja Swamy temple in Tirupati, the colourful sacred threads known as ‘Pavitra Mala’ were taken out in a procession and later adorned to the processional deities of Lord Govindaraja Swamy and his consorts amidst the chanting of the Vedic hymns by the priests. Later in the evening the deities were taken out in a grand procession along the four Mada streets around the Govindaraja Swamy temple on Saturday. The TTD officials and devotees took part in the festivities at the temple.
